Mueller, Jacob

Jacob Mueller was born in 1863 and came to America as a youth.  Penniless at the time of his arrival he proceeded to the Chicago area.  After many years he became the proprietor of a small restaurant in what is now the Chicago Loop.  As the young Chicago began to thrive, so did the industrious Mueller.  With his first restaurant a success he opened a chain of similar establishments through the immediate area.  His businesses were such a success that he retired at the age of 40 and, in 1905, he move to Broadview -- at the time a community of eight or nine scattered farmhouses.  His home was on 17th Avenue.  He often farmed the land adjacent to his home to have something to do.

In 1913 and early 1914 Jacob Mueller, working with John Reindecker and J. Radtke, guided the election to decide on the incorporation of Broadview.  Mueller became Broadview's first president.  He was married to Bridget (Geary) Mueller.
