Junior Women's Club Of Westchester

The Junior Woman's Club of Westchester recently presented gifts to support local organizations including the Westchester Public Library, the Westchester Little League, the Fire Department and the newly formed Historical Society.

At the home of the Westchester Junior president, Mrs. James Taylor, 1316 Portsmouth, Mrs. William O'Boyle received a check for the library.  Mr. Donald Duffy accepted a donation for equipment for the baseball loving youngsters, and Fire Chief Fred Murphy accepted a check for fire house equipment.  Mrs. Robert Seida, the recently named Curator of the Westchester Historical Society, received a gift to launch the work of compiling the History of Westchester.  Mrs. Seida is an active member and Past President of the Westchester Juniors in addition to her duties as Village Clerk and Secretary of the Sixth District Federation of Women's Clubs.

In addition to these philanthropies, the Westchester Juniors also voted to contribute a full scholarship for Teachers of Exceptional Children.  This project was adopted by Illinois Juniors in 1953 with three basic aims in mind; provide financial assistance in the form of scholarships for students in Special Education, encourage entrants into this field, and create public interest in the need for this special training.  There are approximately 300,000 children in the state of Illinois who are handicapped or exceptional in one way or another.  The need is great -- there is still an insufficient number of teachers entering this field. The students now studying, who require financial aid, however, are receiving support from these Junior Scholarships.
