Wesley E. and Helmi L. Panttila

Wesley Panttila was born September 25, 1901. 

Over the years Mr. Panttila served Westchester in several roles.

-He was one of six members of the first Westchester Board of Trustees, 1926. 

-In 1927 he became the Westchester Village Treasurer.  In 1927 he became the Village Treasurer.  He is pictured here in 1931 with Village President Grant N. Britten and Village Clerk Ruben Nelson.  The building behind them was the second Village Hall, the first Village Hall owned by Westchester.1    (Photo by Charles N. Field)

 

-Chief Panttila served for many years as Westchester's second Police Magistrate (Police Chief).  He is pictured here on the left standing proud with his 1948 police force.  (Photo by Charles N. Field)

 

-Wesley Panttila worked in maintenance for the Westchester Library before he retired completely.

Wesley Panttila's last residence address was in Niles, Berrien, Michigan.  He died in May 1983. 

Helmi K. Panttila, the wife of Wesley Panttila was born December 15, 1904.  She was a librarian at the Westchester Public Library for many years. 

Mrs. Panttila died February 25, 1998 in the Chateau Village Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Willowbrook, Illinois.  She was interred in the Chapel Hills Garden West, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

At the time of her death she was survived by two sons, Allan and Parker "Wod"; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.


1The first Village Hall had been a rented empty store at 1543 Westchester Boulevard near the corner of Canterbury Street and Westchester Boulevard.
