Jirek, Lorraine F.

Lorraine Jirek served Westchester for many years in several capacities including 41 years as a village official.  Some of her responsibilities were as:

She was been named Westchester Chamber of Commerce Person of the year for 2004.

Westchester Village Manager John Crois worked with Mrs. Jirek from when he started at the village in 1985 until she retired.  He said "she was very hard working and very energetic," and a valuable asset to the village, particularly with her knowledge of Westchester.  "She knew a lot of the history of the village."  Mrs. Jirek told Mr. Crois  of her early days in Westchester, when the village operated out of a drafty building where the toilets would freeze in the winter.  She was a connection between the village's past and present, he said.

Lorraine F. Jirek, 84, died November 27, 2003, in her home.  Survivors included her children, Charles W. Jr., Gerald, Bill and Katie.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W., Sr.

Shirley Slanker (Society Vice President and longtime Westchester resident) remembers Lorraine as the "right hand of Village manager Charles Danek", Mr. Crois' predecessor as village manager.

Visitation was held November 30 in Hursen Funeral Home in Hillside.  Services were held December 1 in Divine Infant Church, Westchester.  Interment was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
