The Beginning of a School System ...

Two prominent businessmen in the Village furnished the land for Westchester's first two schools.  This land consisted of two acres on the south side of the Village from Mr. George F. Nixon and one acre on the north side of the Village from Mr. Grant N. Britten.  Two two-room schools would be built on this land.  The school board issued bonds to finance the construction of the new schools.

Dedication Ceremonies took place at Britten School on September 1, 1930, and at Nixon School on January 25, 1931.  In 1930, five students graduated from Britten School and one student graduated from Nixon School
