Batterman Family

Christoph Batterman was born March, 22 1808 and died February 16, 1892.  He was the husband of Dorothy Elizabeth Batterman nee Winkelmann.  Dorothy Elizabeth Winkelmann was born June 7, 1815 and died September 19, 1885.  She died of nose cancer.

Other Battermans buried at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery (Hillside, Illinois) include:

• Christoph Batterman was born October 10, 1849 and died January 31, 1933 at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 21 days.  He was the husband of Dorothea nee Gansberg.

• Louise Batterman nee Balgemann was born January 20, 1854 and died June 25, 1893.  She was the wife of Heinrich Batterman (born January 20, 1852).  They were married August 8, 1873 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Proviso Township, Illinois.

• Dorothea Batterman was born May 20, 1856 and died March 17, 1887.  Her maiden name was Gansberg.

• Hulda Batterman was born 1870 and died 23 April 1955 at the age of 84 years.

• Batterman son (stillborn), died October 10, 1884.

• Criss Batterman, died December 13, 1886

• Maria Batterman, died January 8, 1887

• Lydia Batterman, died 19 March 1888. She was the child of Henry Batterman.

• Albert Batterman, died January 9, 1896.

• Karl Batterman, died 9 April 1891.

• Erna Batterman was born 1898 and died December 10, 1977 at the age of 79 years.  She was the wife of Theodore Batterman.

• Hulda Batterman was born 1900 and died July 26, 1929 at the age of 29 years, 9 months and 12 days.

• Edward Batterman was born in 1908 and died July 14, 1973 at the age of 64 years.

• Fern Batterman was born in 1913 and died April 23, 1990 at the age of 77 years.  She was the wife of Edward Batterman.

• Herman Batterman, died October 2, 1925.

• Theodore Batterman was born 1898 and died September 7, 1972 at the age of 74 years.

The Batterman home has been beautifully renovated and sits on Cermak Road between Newcastle Avenue and Portsmouth Avenue, a little east of Edens Bowling alley, on the north side of Cermak Road.  Shirley Slanker recalls growing with some of the former Batterman fruit trees in her parent's back yard.  While not among the founders of the Immanuel Lutheran Church or School, the Batterman's were active Immanuel Lutheran people after
they settled in around the 1860s or 1870s.
