"L" TRAINS TO START SOON

Rapid Transit Company Announces September 1 is Expected Date For Opening of Service

Elevated service to Westchester is expected to start September 1, according to an announcement of the Chicago Rapid Transit company this week contained in the Rapid Transit News.

Frequent service will bring Westchester to the loop within forty-five minutes with express trains operating at intervals of twenty-four minutes.

The article in the Rapid Transit News, the company's magazine for patrons, is as follows:

"Operation of Rapid Transit trains to Westchester, serving the western suburbs of Maywood and Bellwood is expected to begin about September 1.

"Construction work which was delayed on account of shortage of material is practically completed on this new "L" extension connection with the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin R.R. at Bellwood and extending southerly to Roosevelt road, Westchester.

"Inauguration of  'L' to Westchester will place this new suburban residential area within approximately 45 minutes of the loop.

"Express trains are now operated over the Garfield Park branch of the Rapid Transit lines to Desplaines avenue, Forest Park in 33 minutes.  Tentative plans call for operation of rapid transit trains from Desplaines avenue to Fifth avenue, Maywood in four minutes and to Roosevelt road, Westchester in 14 minutes.

"Frequent service is assured.

"According to present plans, through express service between the loop and Maywood will be operated at twelve minute intervals and between the loop and Westchester at 21 minute intervals."
