FISH PERISH IN DRY RIVER

Five thousand fish, ranging in length found 6 to 18 inches, perished recently when an arm of the DesPlaines river near Maywood dried up during the recent drought, and left the fish carcasses rotting in the mud of the former stream bed.

Proviso township officials organized a crew of men to remove the fish and bury them in lime.

It is reported that before the "lake" became completely dry, someone removed several truck loads of fish and sold them on the market.
