FIRE DESTROYS ALLEYS

Of Oakwood Bowling League at Meyers' Grove, Early Friday Morning

The bowling alleys belong to the Oakwood Bowling League and situated in Meyers' grove north of town were destroyed by fire at 5:00 o'clock Friday morning.  There was no fire in the building and it was securely locked so the fire must have started from the outside.  The building and contents were value at $1,000 and were insured for $500.

A meeting will be held Monday night by the league and it is quite likely they will decide to rebuild the alleys at once.

A match game was played at the alleys Thursday night but the acetylene gas lights were shut off before the bowlers left the building so fire could not have started from that source.

Bowling was first started in the grove about thirteen years ago by the members of the German Lutheran church where they held their annual picnic there each July 4.
