Lyman, David Brainard

David Lyman and his brother-in-law, Charles Lay, were developing property between Waiola and Brainard Avenues (La Grange) at the same time Franklin Cossitt was developing his land.  Lyman had lived with his father, a missionary in Hawaii, and is responsible for naming Waiola Avenue (Hawaiian for 'spring of water').  When Cossitt's daughter married Lyman the developments was combined.  Later, Lyman donated the Stone Avenue station on the CB&Q rail line, replacing the older "West Lyons" station.

Lyman also served as the first Village Attorney for La Grange as well as senior warden of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church for many years.
