Kemman, Alphonse, Jr.

Alphonse Kemman (grandson of Henry Kemman) was one of the men who led an effort to incorporate La Grange Park.  On July 14, 1892, a referendum was called -- and passed.  It called for the incorporation of the Village of La Grange Park.  This first act of the newly formed Village was to pass an ordinance declaring the Village dry, shutting down the illegal tavern operated by Pete Swanson.  Alphonse Kemman, Jr. was a La Grange Park trustee for over thirty years as well as its first police officer and fire chief.  He served on the District 102 school board for thirty years and was a founding director of the La Grange Stage Bank.
