Jungkunz, Max

From the "The Village of Harlem: Its People, Homes and Business – 50th Anniversary Souvenir 1856 to 1906"

"One of the busy tradesmen of Harlem is Mr. Max Jungknuz, who was born in the Old Country in 1871.  He came when a boy alone to Chicago and he had already learned the trade of harness making and worked at it after arriving here.  He came to Harlem in 1890 and opened up business on his own account in 1892 on Madison Street.  Then he went to Colorado in 1894, remained there two years, then returned to Chicago in 1896, where he worked at his trade for four years, and again came to Halrm in 1900, where he believed the possibilities to be greater than in any place he had found during his travels.  Here he opened a store and shop at his present location, 160 Madison St., where he carries a large line of harness, saddlery and supplies.  he has a very large and increasing business and is always busy in his repairing department.

"Mr. Jungkunz is a popular business man and belongs to several benevolent and social organizations.  In 1893 he was married to Miss Charlotte Brodies.  They have five very interesting children living -- Helen, Emma, Arthur, Marie and Martin."
