Bieger, Jacob

From the "The Village of Harlem: Its People, Homes and Business – 50th Anniversary Souvenir 1856 to 1906"

"Dr. Bieger was born in Darmstadt, Hess, Germany, in 1869, where he received his elementary education in the public schools.  He also attended the high school there for two years.  In 1885 he came to Chicago with his parents and family, where he lived until 1889, and then he came to Harlem.  Dr. Bieger received his professional education at the Chicago Homoeopathic Medical College, graduating with high honors in 1889, and began the practice of medicine at No. 39 South Marengo Street, where he also has his office.  He is a very successful physician and has a wide practice.

"In 1901 he was married to Miss Ottilia Boesenberg, Of Manheim, Illinois.  They have one young son, Leslie, now two years old.  Dr. Bieger is a man of ideas, is public spirited, and has done great good in elevating the social and educational standard of the village.  He served as a member of the Board of Education for three years, and in 1905 was elected its President.  While serving the Board, the new addition to the South Side School has been made, and also fourteen lots on South Beloit Avenue have been purchased, upon which a new school building is expected to be erected in the near future.  Dr. Bieger's influence as President of the Board of Education is felt not only in the business affairs of the schools, but also in the professional work; his education and judgment well fitting him for the work which can scarcely be overestimated."
