Krieger, Charles

From the "The Village of Harlem: Its People, Homes and Business – 50th Anniversary Souvenir 1856 to 1906"

"The busy blacksmith, Mr. Charles, Krieger, was born in Germany in 1877, where he learned the horseshoeing, blacksmithing and wagon-making trade.  Believing in the greatness of western America, and possessing the knowledge and skill of a good trade, he came to this country in 1900, and was employed in Chicago at his trade for two years.  He then came to Harlem and started in business at 140 Madison Street, where he conducts a large business in general blacksmithing, horseshoeing and wagon-making.  He is counted an expert workman.

"Mr. Krieger belongs to several fraternal and benevolent societies.  While he has been here but a few years, yet in this brief time he has become a thorough master of the English language, being about to speak and write it fluently and correctly.  he has also been happily fortunate in securing a good helpmate.  he was married to Miss Mertha Adam in 1903.  They have four children -- Erna, Conrade, Margaret and Katie."
