White, C. D.

From the "The Village of Harlem: Its People, Homes and Business – 50th Anniversary Souvenir 1856 to 1906"

"A Yankee appreciates the people of Harlem and in turn is appreciated by them; at least, such is the case with Mr. C. D. White, who has been engaged in business with success here for a number of years.  Mr. White was born in Massachusetts on a farm in 1843.  In 1857 he came west with parents and located at Kenosha, Wis., where his father started the first cheese factory west of Lake Michigan.  He worked for his father a number of years, learning the cheese-making trade.  In 1881 he moved to Iowa and became a farmer.  He left the farm in 1893, came to Harlem and purchased the flour and feed store of W. W. Wood, at Marengo and Randolph Sts., his present location.  He does a large business and carries a large stock of all kinds of flour, feed, axle grease, etc., wholesale and retail.

"Mr. White's close attention to business and fair dealings have acquired for him the confidence of the community.  He was married in 1881 to Miss Anna M. Green of Waukesha, Wis.  They have a son and one daughter, Charles A. and Alta L., who live at home with their parents."
