Peters, Adolph

From the "The Village of Harlem: Its People, Homes and Business – 50th Anniversary Souvenir 1856 to 1906"

"A man of sterling integrity, one who stands high in the estimation of his fellow men, and one who has started several employees in a successful business career, is Mr. Adolph Peters, the successful butcher.  He was born in Germany in 1861, where he learned his trade, and came to Chicago in 1887, where he found employment with a large concern.  Here he worked for three years, then came to Harlem in 1890 and opened a small shop on his own account at 139 Madison St.  The new advantages in Harlem proved successful to him so that in 1896 he was enabled to build his own handsome building which he now occupies at 129 Madison St.

"Mr. Peters is the oldest, largest and best known butcher in Harlem who handles meats, exclusively.  He has a model and modern market, as fine as there is to be found anywhere.  Also, in connection, he has a packing plant of no small size, equipped with all necessary appliances.  He does not depend upon the large packers for his supplies but buys hogs, calves and poultry direct from the farmers.  he makes his own sausage, and a specialty of summer sausage.

"Mr. Peters was married in 1904 to Miss Clara Buchholz of Chicago, a most estimable lady and business woman who takes an active interest in her husband's affairs."
