Danek, Charles
Charles Danek was born on February 6, 1919. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Westchester Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Danek was the first village manager of Westchester, serving from the 1950s to the 1970s. He is remembered by Westchester Village President Sinde as "a real hands-on man and was respected by most people that I know."
"He did a fine job," said President Sinde.
He faced "a lot of ordinances that restricted the governing of the village, and
trying to do something with these restrictions was not an easy thing to do."
John Sinde also recalls Mr. Danek performed the village manager duties before
the village even had a job title of village manager. As a result, Mr. Danek
oversaw the village's police, fire and public works departments.
Charles Danek died in this home Monday, August 25, 1997. His survivors
included one son, Jeff C. and two grandchildren. He was interred in
Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park.
