Fenhouse, George

George Fenhouse moved to Bellwood in 1906 and lived in a house located on 28th Avenue.  He remembers the area had rows of catalpa trees, about 10 feet high when he arrived here.  There were a very few wooden sidewalks, but no sewers.  Ditches were dug on both sides of the street and the only wood was an overpass made over the ditch. The streets were mostly gravel or dirt.

Mr. Fenhouse was a source for the "Bellwood, 1900-1975: The Heart of Proviso Township, A Diamond Jubilee History from the Beginning to the Present with an Emphasis on the Formative Years"
