Boese Family

The Boese families have been life-long residents of Hillside starting in 1907 when Henry Boese and his wife, Theresa, moved from Iowa.  They started their monument business on 12th Street across from the Oak Ridge Cemetery entrance. They lived in their homestead next to their monument business with their three children, Herman, Leah and Emma (Westphal).  Henry's son, Herman and his wife, Minnie, lived in the homestead with their two children, Herman Jr. and Eleanor, and continued the monument business in the same location. When the home was razed, the Boese's built a brick home on Orchard Street.
